What causes a NOx sensor to fail?

There are many reasons to cause faulty NOx sensors, now we talk about two main/frequent causes.

a. water gets in
If water gets into the probe, the sensor unit will be out of operation (the core part is the ceramic chip working in high temperature, and it’ll break when meets water).

b. diesel VS gasoline
Diesel is more likely to damage components of vehicles than gasoline. The incomplete
combustion of diesel caused carbon deposits on the sensor probe, that results
in damage to NOx sensors.
